Women's rights in the Middle East are not being respected as they should be. Women are not allowed to do things that we take for granted every day. Some of these things include going to school, getting good jobs, having freedom of speech, and many more. What can you do about this? Take action! Start by spreading the word to your family, friends, and neighbors. Even something as little as texting your friend about it makes a big difference, because eventually, it all adds up.
The moon had roused herself awake
A diamond mist A swirling universe that could devour him at any time but had no desire to A benediction The vastness of the whales Shined in the moonlight Looking at each other Two souls under the moon Understand what the whale is saying The eye of a whale Fog embraced like a vampire Stars puffed out their chests A silent beauty She could not see it The whale was gone ![]() My marvelous mother, Sherin Elizabeth Thomas (Sheri), was born on December thirteenth, in Newport News, Virginia. She is Southern to the core. Her parents are Jake and Jacki Thomas, and she has one sister named Christy Thomas. Even though Sheri is from the previous generation, her childhood was not unlike mine. She traveled a lot, went to a school just like Buckley, and spent most of her free time doing things like going to the beach, and riding bikes with the neighborhood kids. As a kid, she loved to visit her grandfather's farm, where she collected eggs from the henhouse, milked cows, and drove tractors. In high school, Sheri enjoyed spending time with her three best friends, Treybird, Broccoli, and Motini (a.k.a. Trey, Barclay, and Mark). She managed a sports team each season, and was senior class president. After graduating, Sheri was ready to "leave the nest" and attended Boston College for the full four years. At BC, she met her best friend (and roommate), my godmother, Gracy Kwon. Those two besties were roommates for all four years at BC, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia together for six years. In Atlanta, Sheri began her career in advertising, and worked as the marketing director for several of the Olympic Games. What happened next, you ask? Well, while in advertising, Sheri met the love of her life, Joe Lawson. They got married three years later, and seven years after that, a child was born! And that child's name was Harper Thomas Lawson. Lastly, seven years after that, she and her family moved to Los Angeles, California, due to Joe's new job. Today, Sheri works for a summer camp called Tumbleweed Day Camp. She just adores her job! She also now has "the family dog", Kyle Lawson. Sheri is very happy in LA, but she just misses her Virginia Smithfield ham! -Lawson |
